1963 TV restoration
Okay so I found this old TV which I think is a Ei NIŠ brand,
ZAVODI RR model 21 RR 850 I think, correct me if i'm wrong? After first inspection it seems that the TV seems OK, without bad caps and burnt resistor...and being very dirty and dusty inside. The CRT electron gun seems to have no burns inside, nice and clean, the flyback also doesn't have any wax leakage. Everything still looks original, no fixes or mods which is good I guess. As you can see on one of the pictures there is a burnt component, I think its a diode of some sort? Anyway I need schematics for this thing! |

Welcome,
You might find that there isn't a lot of knowledge here of that brand. Also, your pictures haven't uploaded. |

Re: 1963 TV restoration
First step - bring it indoors!
That's got "Continental Philips" written all over it to me, even the back looks like one of theirs. |

Re: 1963 TV restoration
Could well be a Philips but not guaranteed. 110 degree tube and I'd guess 1960. Looks very repairable. J.

Re: 1963 TV restoration
Would Philips designs be licensed to Yugoslavian or other eastern European manufacturers?

Re: 1963 TV restoration
Has anyone else noticed the size of the loudspeaker?
We never got anything that generous in a table model in the UK! Steve |

Re: 1963 TV restoration
I am suprised that the speaker magnet does not distort the raster!

Re: 1963 TV restoration
...and using a transformerless P-P output stage which bears an uncanny resemblance to the Philips Bi-ampli design frequently used in continental sets. I reckon about 5 watts seeing as it uses a PL84 and PCL82. Much better than the offerings in any sets we had at the time!
The whole circuit screams Philips..... Rich

Re: 1963 TV restoration
Something about the speaker mounting makes it look unoriginal.

Re: 1963 TV restoration
Sorry for the bad quality of the schematics, I dont know how to upload them properly on here, I guess in pdf format not jpg.
Looked at the schems and the speaker is a 800 ohms 6 watts. And I have another question in the picture below you can see some red components; are those capacitors and this white stuff on them is leakage? It's on pretty much on every single one of them. |

I didn't know before I saw those pictures, that Philips had licensed TV designs to Ei, but it is quite obvious they did. The design is actually one from the late 1950's so it wasn't their newest by the time this set was produced. In 1963 Philips themselves already switched to printed circuits for most main stream models. Maybe they even some of their old production equipment to Ei along with the license. Incidentally, I would be interested to know more about licensing of Philips designs and manufacturing for and by Philips in Eastern Europe before 1992 (and after 1992 actually but that's a bit off-topic). The only other example I'm aware of, is the Avex joint venture with Tesla to produce video recorders in Czechoslovakia. Last edited by Maarten; 18th Aug 2013 at 12:30 pm. |

Re: 1963 TV restoration
Looks well worth getting going.
I have a "Dux" TV, originally from Sweden, and that uses a Philips chassis of the era (about 1959); the design is far superior to what they were marketing in the UK at the time and, needless to say, the results from the thing prove this.

Re: 1963 TV restoration
Hi there !
I have a problem with the parallel filament wiring in this set. Before I wanted to start working on it,I decided to test the filament circuitry and see if the tubes start to glow. So I disconnected Any wire that goes in the tv circuitry except the wire which goes to filaments. Then I tryed, but as soon as I plugged in only on tube started to glow and very strongly,I disconnected it as quick as I could from the mains, thn I try this tube on a power supply and the heater did work,so I didnt burn it up. Why does it keep doing that,I tryed atleast 60% of the tubes filaments and they all work, that are near this one. Somebody please help ! |

Re: 1963 TV restoration
One or more of the decoupling capacitors from various points in the heater string to chassis could be leaking, effectively shorting out the heaters downstream of that point and overvoltaging the ones upstream.
