Default Thorn 1400/1500 mechanical tuners

Has anyone found a way of repairing the mechanical tuners used in thorn sets such as 1400/1500 and others.

The problem being the plastic on the ends of the tuning sliders becomes brittle
and breaks allowing the spring to come fully forward jamming up the buttons so they are near on impossible to get them to latch.

At the moment i have put a cable tie around each one between the slider and the circlip to stop the spring going forward it works but as the clips move it still sticks sometimes.

I have solved the problem believe it or not using cup washers. I used M10 metal ones from my hardware store as it was the only thing I could find initially I was going to use plain washers but saw cup washers on the shelf and thought they would support the springs better.
