ID vintage mic?
Hi, is anyone able to ID this mic for me please?
I looked up Grampian and Geloso, but I don't think this was their logo at any point. Thanks Jackie |

Goldring?
Looks a bit like their logo with a speaker added.

Re: ID vintage mic?
I remember having one very similar with a cheap Japanese tape recorder in the 1960's
I can't remember the make; but it was very much like the Dokorder shown on this YouTube link. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfG6PEBwWk4&t=129s Regards Ralph. |

Re: ID vintage mic?
Many thanks ms660. Sadly, I didn't win it on ebay, which is a little gutting, but I do have another that I did win, which is baffling me.
The case says it's a Vitavox mic, yet Vitavox Sales dept claim it's a Western Electric 618 and not one of theirs. Has anyone seen these before? It looks very much like the Vitavox Admiralty mic used by the Royal Navy, but they were clearly marked as Vitavox. Grateful for any help Jackie |

Re: ID vintage mic?
The perforated grille is much more Vitavox than GE (or STC, for that matter), similarly the terminals.
If it fits the box well, I think there can be little doubt, but I'm open to correction. |

Re: ID vintage mic?
Online images for Western Electric 618 don't look much like it either.

Re: ID vintage mic?
Vitavox came back to me this morning and said "Thank you for the additional pictures, unfortunately it most certainly look like this equipment was supplied well before we took over the military side of the company/business and so am unable to identify the age of this equipment."
I don't think this was a military mic, as it's too "pretty". An enthusiast has told me he reckons it is Vitavox but non-military and probably from the late 40's early 50's. That's as much information as I can get at the moment. |

Re: ID vintage mic?
It may still be military in origin despite the Pretty grille. The three connections suggest it is "Balanced line" so could be studio rather than domestic equipment, and could well have been used by the USO or similar military operations. I haven't been able to get a date yet, but still searching.
