My very first thought when I saw that was that it had the look of an Ekco set. Tuning on the left isn't like them though is it?

This could well be one of those "no name", 3 band, 5 valve AM Superhets that were sold in chassis-only form by many of the radio component specialists at that time. The missing output valve is highly likely to be an EL84.

My immediate guess was a no-name department-store or similar radiogram chassis, but we'll see. The prominent gram. option on the waveband switch points to a radiogram, and the absence of FM in the '60s (and it doesn't look much older than the '60s if at all) signifies a fairly low budget.

I also thought it looked like a cheap radiogram chassis.

It certainly looks like the ones that were sold by John James in the sixties Falcon brand comes to mind.

That green looking electrolytic capacitor on the op transformer looks a bit out of place.
