I think a better way of putting it would be: For the purpose of the maximum power transfer theorem, the transmission line effect can be ignored as there is no reflection when there is an impedance match, however, when there is an impedance missmatch both effects must be considered.

agreed, the theorm does not really do anything for you in this case.
