Putting a browser on Windows XP?

Hi
I have an old laptop which has mozilla on it but does not work ( out of date ? )
I’ve tried pressing the update button but that does not work
Explorer does not work either !
How do I please get a browser on it with no working browser ?
Please keep it simple as I’m not that pc tecky !

My XP machine uses IE6. I don't know where you'd get it from. Old XP installation disc perhaps? You shouldn't be using an XP machine on the net.

I wanted a browser so I can email myself files on the laptop only then print from my iPhone

Firefox should work on XP.

The question is how to get it though. Perhaps download to another machine and transfer using suitable media?

It sounds as if you don't have a working internet connection. What happens when you start whatever version of Internet Explorer you have as part of XP?

I think the last XP friendly version of firefox is 52.9.0 it should be possible to still download it from their site.

The OP is claiming that he doesn't have a browser of any description on his XP system. That seems unlikely, as it's very difficult to uninstall Internet Explorer completely from XP, even if you never use it.

It is connected to WiFi
It says in the settings it’s authenticating ,is that right ?
It says when trying a browser can’t find server

You don't have a working WiFi connection for whatever reason. This isn't a browser issue.

It sounds like you have a network, rather than a browser problem. Is the 'authentication' the wifi arguing with it's source for a connection?

Well don’t ask me why but it suddenly connected to the internet !

What version of Firefox are you on (can be established by clicking "Help" then "About Firefox")? As noted earlier, if you're on 52.9.0, that's the latest possible on XP.

If you save the exe to a usb drive or even to a CD, install it from there to your XP machine.

This is usually the way. Probably because it wants to put the latest edition on, sees that the operating system is too old and so server says no.

I have had the same issue with some old Macs. Thanks to guys on here I have located suitable versions for various Mac and ancient Windows machines.

Wi-Fi involves another lot of hand-shaking between peripherals and machine and can be slow and flaky on old machines so in these instances I run an ethernet cable from router to machine to do the job quickly and eliminate that bit of the chain. I’m regularly using a 2002 machine with almost equally ancient peripherals here for some tasks. It does its jobs excellently – there is one coming in today! – but it is kept isolated from the internet.

Maarten‘s suggestion is a good one for old machines.

I have the latest edition of Opera working on an old Mac that is so many OSs out of date I have lost count.
