Default Lifting Open Cardboard Boxes

Here's a tip for when you need to carry open cardboard boxes with heavy contents. I’m sure we have all opened a box and then decided to move it before removing the contents. Once the box is open it loses its rigidity and when you drag it, it distorts and the flap you are using begins to tear off.

Instead, simply fold a pair of opposing flaps back on themselves so that they are almost parallel to the sides and use them to lift the box keeping your hands close to the box sides. Obviously you need to assess the strength of the box but usually if it’s strong enough for transporting the goods you should be able to use this method.
This trick is ideal for lifting boxes out of vehicles or off workbenches.

I showed this technique to one of the junior techs at work yesterday and he was impressed so it can’t be such a bad idea.

A handy hint, now stored in the soft lump in my skull.
