Default Wiring an Austrian(?) telephone for the UK.

Hi there
Totally new to old telephones and want help please.
I have an old bakelite retro phone which I think Austrian ?
It has the following data underneath
24744
K with an S on top
1949
53321

If anyone can give me some information and let me know if it is possible to convert it to use on a modern UK phone line I would be really pleased.

thanks

Are you sure it's not an H with an S superimposed? If it is, the instrument will be a Siemens and Halske. These were a Berlin based company. From your image it certainly looks like an S&H, probably one of their W48 series which are quite common at the moment. Some had a pushbutton on the front, lower right, where yours appears to have a blanking plug fitted.

It's possible to convert most telephones of that era to work in the UK but, beyond that, someone with more knowledge than me (which is most people) will have to elaborate further.

The ringer will definitly draw a lot of REN and make trouble if not modified.

I believe:

2=UK2 1=UK5 3=UK3 and this no 3 Should have a resistor in seies. at least 2.2 k.

If it is not ringingig, change UK2 and UK5

Sorry the last one is wrong, but the edit-possibility timed out.

2=UK2 1=UK5

This will make it work. Modifying the ringer circuit will be equal to modifying a German W48.
If you may take a picture of the wiring-diagram witch probably will be glued ti the inside of the telephone we may give more spesific help.
