Re: Is it safe to post a vintage crt?
Earlier today this was passed around on a mailing list I'm subscribing to. The context was a discussion of damage sustained during shipping and prevention of same through careful packaging.
Like delivering it yourself. Hint: Automated package sorting facilities. Frank N. Edit: Fun coincidence: In Danish the term 'ups' literally means the same and is used precisely as 'whoops' would in English. Broke a fine vase by accidentally pushing it off its pedestal? "Ups... " Using UPS, the courier shipping company, is not exactly a widespread practice here in Denmark for some reason... Last edited by YC-156; 22nd Dec 2005 at 3:33 pm. |

Re: Is it safe to post a vintage crt?
Hi Dave,
Well, I have sent one to Darius in Germany, a 9" tube, the box was approx 18"x24"x36" and filled with the correct style of packing to leave the neck stress free. I have also got one from Gerry at Crowthorne tubes, and that was packed in all sorts of foam and stuff. Both have arrived without incident. it is all in the packing however. Cheers Sean

I've had a 5" Tektronix scope tube sent from Canada to the UK, in it's original Tek box, and it survived fine (it was the fragile storage tube as well!), but the TEK boxes were designed for this kind of thing.
