That early a serial number and blue, you probably had the engraved, copper plated steel panel. Most AR88 had the legends silk screened over the black wrinkle paint job, so it will look a bit wrong to those in the know. It will probably be an AR88 without suffix letter, so ig getting a later panel you'll need one from an AR88D to get the right tuning ranges printed around the bandswitch. An AR88 LF will be wrong.

What happened to the original?

Hi David
Yes, it is the copper/steel engraved one, the original after numerous attempts at respraying it and filling the engraving with suggestions on the forum etc. have failed and am losing interest rapidly!!

You are correct in that it is just the AR88, I have restored the electronics completely, gearbox etc, and it works very well. Although I stuffed the bathtubs with new caps so things look original, I am not a purist. I just want the thing to sit in the shack working well and looking reasonably good. I have printed a new scale for an s-meter as well.

Cheers
Andy
