Hacker Handle; curled rexine inlay.
Hi
I purchased a rather nice Hacker Sovereign II RP25A at the Harpenden auction a few weeks ago. Cabinet is in good condition, except for the handle, where the rexine strip has come away from its backing at the edges, and curled upwards Any sugesstions to the best way to refixing it, will be much appreciated. Re: Hacker Handle
Quite common problem.
1. Soak for a minute or two in warm (not hot) water, then carefully peel off rexine. 2. Remove as much sticky muck as possible from underside of rexine. 3. Lay rexine on hard, flat surface with something heavy and rigid on top so it flattens out while drying. You can flatten the curled edges with a warm iron and damp cloth but be very careful. 4. Clean sticky muck from handle. 5. Apply thin coat of a contact adhesive to handle. Don't overdo this as excess adhesive will ooze from edges when reapplying the rexine. 6. Reapply rexine (once it's dry of course) and hold/secure ends to keep rexine tawt around handle. If rexine has stretched, trim excess from handle ends and check location of pivot holes. 7.
