Speaker cloth for AD76 and AC97
Hi folks, following on from my post on Smoke damaged radio's, David (Hamish Boxer) is carrying out the restoration work on the AD 76, AC97 and Fellophone super three, Thanks David.
While the radio's are dismantled it has been decided to replace the speaker cloth on both sets, as one is already torn and the other is a badly mis-matched piece of fabric. I've looked on eBay but cant see anything suitable, can anyone advise me of a good supplier ( there is a person who attends the annual radio meeting in or around Coventry in May, but as most things you don't take details of all the stalls you visit and his name escapes me !!) Any help sourcing some appropriate fabric would be greatly appreciated Regards Paul..................... |

Re: Speaker cloth for AD76 and AC97
Take a trip to your local Indian/Pakistani cloth shop, there is a great one in Southall, no end of geometric designs like the old speaker cloth, being inspired by the east was common in the 30's.
Imagine the picture, me (over six foot male biker) asking for a bit of this or that cloth. It worked despite the language barrier (I guess the ladies running the shop where first generation immigrants) I was probably the subject for gossip for ages. Great lunch (if you like hot curries) just up the road too. And if you do go to Southall visit the Sikh temple, it is a wonderful building. |
