There's a lot of unique information here - I would imagine the forum occupies a fair chunk of server space now

The oldest post and thread that still exists is this one:

https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/showthread.php?p=5

However when the forum was migrated from the old YaBB system to vBulletin in 2006, some threads were lost and some post dates etc were messed up etc.

Just under 20GB of disk space for the whole site including database and attachments etc now. Bandwidth is just over 200GB per month.

I was online earlier than many, back when we had dial-up connections with Demon etc. Fortunately Hereford, where I lived at the time, was one of the first exchanges to get ADSL which of course I got as soon as I could.

I agree, and if someone can arrange it, I'll cover the cost.

I particularly like how the fates sneaked it in amidst a few that might just have been intended to garner the rosette.
Besides, I'm glad it's not me.

David
A nice gesture, shame he rejected it

I would have bit your hand off

It was not my intention to offend Poppydog, I just wouldn't want anyone going to the trouble. It was a very nice gesture indeed, and I am very grateful to David for such a kind offer.

I would like to say that after having exchanged a few PM's with David (Radio Wrangler) I have humbly accepted his very kind offer.

I am blown away by the kindness and generosity of this wonderful community and I am very proud to say that I was the one millionth poster. I intend to get a badge made up proclaiming so for the next NVCF!!!

May the forum continue for many many years.

John Joe.

Hi,
Maybe a nice chess set would be a suitable trophy?
Cheers, Pete.

Hi,
I imagine the pawns could well be EF80s since they are the 'commoners' of the valve world.
I know nothing about the chess set (nor chess, come to that), It was an image shared to me on Facebook from a friend.
Cheers, Pete.

I suppose the white pieces could have been done with valves gone-to-air.

Problem is that if EF80s were the pawns and you left a game part way through, the following day there'd be several more than 16 pawns on the board, and you'd have to work out where the original ones were.

EF80 to 6V6's PL500 3.

I rather like the curvy G envelopes for the queens, and GT glass for the others.

I've just noticed that one of my first posts (#7) is in that old thread about plastic polish !
I checked and the items are still available although the prices have increased somewhat.
Wasn't internet access whilst at work a great thing ?

A bright emitter valve and socket mounted on a mahogany and ebonite pedestal with a little engraved brass plaque?

But that leaves so much more missing. An EF50 an EF80 and a PL509 to symbolise all the tellies fixed over the years. A dendrite-clogged AF117. An AVO VCM as the base, no pointer in its meter but one drawn in at the zero end. No, maybe a Sussex working in all its glory.

So hard. nothing deserves to be left out. And for the lunatic fringe, a strait-jacket with expensive speaker cable instead of straps?

It has to symbolise that it's all for the fun of it.

The member making the one millionth post has been identified and will be receiving a prize.

Time to close this thread before it morphs into a discussion about the finer points of chess.
