Default Posting Frequency

Over the last year or so, and especially of late, I seem to have noticed a continuing increase in the frequency of posting on the forum. I think that the moderators deserve a special vote of thanks for keeping control of the situation by ensuring that nothing offensive or questionable creeps through.

Are there any statistics for the number of posts per day?

It varies, but there are typically about 200 posts per day.

The forum is busy at the moment, but running well with the vast majority of members behaving themselves and little malicious activity. There have been much more stressful times to be a moderator in the past

I used to wonder how some members could manage over 12,500 posts in 8 years but it only works out at around 30 a week.

It's quality, not quantity that counts though.

I don't know how long it took me to reach 12,500 posts, but reaching my current total of 15,374 took 17 years.

My 200 a day guesstimate was a bit low then.

There's a clear 9½-day cycle there Christmas+New Year will inevitably give a different pattern but the expectation of more posts on Sat/Sun does seem to be borne out

We did clear out a load of older threads some years ago, but I can't remember the reason. This would have reduced the post counts of some members. We have no plans or reason to do anything that drastic again.

However we do delete older threads in the offered and wanted sections from time to time. These are of no relevance months or years later, and as many tend to have attachments it is a good way of reducing the disk space used without losing anything that anyone would care about or even notice (other than reducing some members post counts again). We haven't done that for some time actually, so maybe it is due soon?

Problematic threads occasionally get deleted too, which would reduce post counts, although more often they are just closed.

Post counts should only be taken as an indication of how active a member is anyway. The exact figure is not that important, especially once you get into the thousands. You can be sure that any figure for posts by a member or posts per day is a minimum and it could be higher.

Indeed, although not planned that way, it a good snapshot to compare the holiday period with the preceding normal period.

The US websites do suffer from some little participation at the holiday season. It's a little dry. This website has always has interesting entries.
Plus you have very knowledgeable members. it's always a pleasure visiting this site.
I hope I can contribute a little insight on the US side of things.
Sincerely, US radcoll1, Dave.

This is my tenth year on the Forum and i think my frequency is about a third of a post a day !
The other stat ive always wondered about are the ages of the members who post.
Are there stats regarding this?
Would be interesting to see the age ranges and the amount of forum members within those age ranges who post.
