Strange that the WINDOWS KEY+ semicolon trick isn't better known (I, at least, had never come across it). But I've often puzzled about getting esoteric symbols into emails - usually resorting to composing them in Word.

So, a very productive thread! Thanks.

Default Special codes

Can someone explain to me how to use special characters here? For example, umlauts and Greek letters. TIA

Either that or I just look up the symbols in Wikipedia and copy and paste.

Windows key (plus) :; key

Then click on the Omega sign, you can also access other symbols by clicking on the relevant symbol on the bottom row.

Clicking on the selected symbol will insert it to the left of the cursor in the message.......ΑλμΨξ....etc.
