Anybody know of a UK vendor for decent Electrolytics?
I'm looking for a UK vendor who sell reputable Electrolytic Capacitors, as my usual vendors only stock poor ones like Forever, Samxon, Lelon, etc'..
I know RS and Farnell sell Panasonic, Nichicon, and various other good ones, but I'm looking for an alternative vendor with a view to placing small orders now and again as the aforementioned are quite expensive to buy from and only sell in multiples. |

You could always try CPC which is a subsidiary of Farnell, free postage if ordered on line. Cricklewood electronics, Willow vale electronics,Irwin electronics, and even Grandata now back on line.

I too would recommend CPC for this. Try to get their paper catalogue if you can, as the website can be much less easy to navigate.
Is WVE still running, John? I haven't used them for over 20 years. Nick. |

CPC's website isn't easy to use but is a good source for caps made by Vishay and other reputable makers.
Don,t forget Ebay, which is a useful source of caps too. I'd also recommend Audiocap for big F+T electrolytic caps- small company, I've found them very helpful .

For common values and small quantities I've had good value & V. speedy service from "semtech1", a seller on E-Bay.
Of course for a vast selection of values and manufacturers CPC/FEC take some beating. |

Another recommendation for CPC, I usually only buy in small quantities, so the free postage is great.
Another good source is 'Just Radios' good quality caps and a good service to boot. Mark |

Can't believe no one has suggested Rapid. They sell a lot of Suntan caps, which are thoroughly reputable.

Re: Anybody know of a UK vendor for decent Electrolytics?
Could I just ask the question of what are the criteria for identifying a "decent electrolytic"? I believe that we are mainly talking about components suitable for HT roles here?
I must admit that my own approach over recent years has been less than scientific. I've developed a liking for Panasonic components, tending to use capacitors with voltage ratings well over the actual working voltage. I haven't been paying much attention to other parameters such as ripple. What would a "check list" look like for choosing replacement capacitors for a restoration? B |

A decent caps usually means one well constructed and with a good reputation over time. Makes such as Rubycon, Panasonic,Vishay, Rodenstien, Philips, F+T, etc all have a decent reputation.
Andy.
