Default Marconiphone 4041 slow speed

Having had help with the above previous, I have encountered another problem recently, since the original repair it has been working flawlessly for it's occasional use.
But, it has started playing slow, but the speed difference is marginal i.e if I increase the speed on a 33 to 45 you know it's playing at 45. I have removed the turntable and can confirm the motor is running and so is the rubber wheel that engages on the wheel.

I have no idea where to start, it would suggest the motor, but does it require taking apart and cleaning or simply replace the motor.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's highly unlikey to be the motor. More likely slippage between the edge of the idler wheel (small rubber drive wheel) and the inside of the tuntable rim. Clean both with isopropyl alcohol or meths and then put some talcum powder on the inner rim.

If Edward's suggestion does not help have a look at where the idler wheel is running on the motor spindle. The motor on similar decks I have seen is suspended on conical rubber grommets which sag over time and allow the idler to engage with the wrong part of the stepped motor spindle. You can adjust the position of the idler on many decks but I think that it is better to replace the rubbers which are readily available on ebay.

Cleaning the turntable rim and the idler wheel has solved the playing speed

There might be something else related to the above;

Place a record on the spindle
Select auto, this is where it all goes in slow motion
The disc drops with the turntable hardly moving, the arm comes across slowly, the turntable finally picks up the arm comes down on the record and it plays.

At the end it's the reverse, the arm lifts off the record, then it goes into slow motion, the turntable almost stops before picking up again, it's as if something is slipping but the playing speed now appears ok.

More power is needed to operate the auto-changer mechanism than is required to merely spin the turntable. That's why things slow down. The problem will be aggravated if the auto-changer mechanism hasn't been cleaned and relubricated. Grease has a tendency to go hard after 50 years!

Some times the problem is so bad that the auto-changer will only operate at 78 rpm where more energy is stored in the turntable, which acts as a flywheel, than at lower speeds.

The subject of cleaning and relubricating has come up in the forums more times than I care to remember.
