Recovering turntable on wind up gramophone
This is my take on the replacing the worn covering on the turntable, because the brake is applied to the outer rim you can't fold the covering over. Just a cut edge would soon fray.
I decided to fit the what was a piece of old velvet curtain material to a mild steel disk which I cut from an old scrap heater, it needed to be thin but strong, this enabled me to fold the material over making a neat edge. I think it looks the part, you can just see the old covering on the first picture. Mick. |

That's a neat circle you cut out, Mick! I'm guessing not tin snips?

Re: Recovering turntable on wind up gramophone
Hi Mark you are correct not tin ships as this would have caused twisting and distortion ,I used my trusty jigsaw with a metal cutting blade took my time ,and then finished it off on the 12" vertical sander making sure the edge was smooth and rounded. Mick.

Very good. That's the sort of thing that would go horribly, stickily wrong for me!

There was an article in Autumn 2012 BVWS Bulletin by Gary Tempest entitled 'Another HMV Record Player - Model 122 from 1939', pages 4 - 9, which might be of interest. The Bulletin can be viewed and downloaded at this link:
