Default Akai 215D No reverse no autostop

As per the title ,

it seems that they are both dependant on being sorted to ground from what I can tell , the manual I have is awful though , so would the problems be related to each other ?

The reverse / forward buttons do nothing , and the auto stop arm does nothing .

Any ideas will be gratefully received .

Oh good grief, hahah, I guess this will explain it.

Haha. I'll replace all these and get back to you.

That will explain the smell at least ..LOL.

Those capacitors look ok to me and I doubt that that is causing your fault,

What on earth do they all DO?

I thought that model was a fairly ordinary 2-lever Akai mech with 7" spools. With hardly any need for a jumping cracker.

They look OK ? are you kidding ? , firstly , they are rifa caps , that should give you a major hint , secondly if you look a bit closer they are pretty much ALL bulging , 80% of them are cracked and 4 of them are burned out , althougn in your defence you cant see the burns in the pic, but tech 101 rifa caps = get rid quick ...I`ve uploaded a blow up of them , can you see the cracks now ?

David , as Lawrence says they are snubbers , except they are separate resistors and caps. I must admit they took me by surprise when i flipped the board over , there are 3 burned out resistors amongst that lot too so they are going to need replacing ****** rifa caps are a pain .

Ok the AR is fixed the previous repairer attempt left out a "top hat" in the sensing pole making the machine permanently grounded to forward play . I`ve got a few of those so put one in and bobs your tea pot . Now plays in both directions . I`ll get the rest of the caps changed tomorrow along with those burned resistors and hopefully that`ll be all it needed . Sounds pretty pants at the min but once calibrated it should come together pretty well I think . nice little machine really , well , apart from the fire hazard in the roof of it ..haha

So I`ve still got no auto stop which is a little strange . its sensing the lever is up , but not shutting it off when it drops . Little bit strange , mmm...the plot thickens

Sussed it , bent "actuator" spring . Doing what it should now , all recapped , cleaned , and ready for calibration . On to the next.
