Philips disintegrating erase heads
Can anybody point me at a suitable replacement for a Philips cassette erase head? The one fitted has gone gooey and has a hole in the front but the pole pieces are still there.
Thanks Dave |

Re: Philips disintegrating erase heads
Dave,
Disintegration & oozing from later Philips Erase heads in the way you describe, is a known problem. Take a very close look inside the back of the head and you may find the missing part stuck there. I have several Philips cassette recorders (e.g: N2233 & N2234 etc) with the same problem. I've been able to repair one or two (as long as all parts are still there) but use a only R.S. two part epoxy resin, (RS 850-940) but, instead of using equal amounts of Resin & Hardener, only use half the amount of hardener (red top).....believe it or not.....it sets quicker !! Tony

Re: Philips disintegrating erase heads
I usually just change these for a bog standard white one out the parts bin.

Re: Philips disintegrating erase heads
This happened to my Philips N2534.
Luckily, I spotted it before trying a cassette in my new acquisition. The middle of the erase head was raised (sorry for near-pun) a few millimetres. 'I've never seen a head like that before' I thought to myself. I couldn't resist touching it with my finger and found I could push the raised part down quite easily with my nail. Of course, it slowly bobbed right back up again As another poster did, I simply changed it for a common white head and it worked fine. |

Re: Philips disintegrating erase heads
What suppliers would sell generic heads? I have found the centre piece is missing.

Re: Philips disintegrating erase heads
I may have a spare used one and you are welcome to have it for cost of postage only. I will look for it in my parts collection and let you know.
