Default Philips Radio find

Hi Everyone,

Clearing out my dad's garage and came across this radio. I have zero knowledge on this type of thing so would be grateful if anyone could give me any info about it please.

Regards

Philips B3G58U dating from 1958. It has its metal chassis connected to one side of the mains supply so don't plug it in until it has been serviced by someone who knows what they are doing https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philips_b3g85ub_3_g_85.html

Don't worry I'm not about to go messing around with it.

Many thanks for your help.

I have one myself, which I electrically restored.

It receives AM stations on the Medium Wave band (no Long Wave provision on this radio) and the VHF/FM band. The VHF/FM band has a much better sound quality, even on this old radio, when restored.

It works well and is fairly sensitive. I particularly like the "lozenge" shaped cabinet and the red tuning scale.

Made in the (now long gone) Philips factory in Croydon.

I have repaired a few of these - many years ago! I seem to recall that the quality and sensitivity on FM was surprisingly good considering the size. I'd be inclined to restore it.
