Default Reliance telephone Co. Wall phone

Hi,
Just acquired a Reliance Telephone Company/GEC wall mounted phone. I am keen to convert it for use. It looks like the GPO 741 wall phone. Inside it looks more sophisticated. Would conversion be straightforward or is there more to it? Any advice, hints etc. gratefully received
Thanks

It looks more like a GPO Telephone 711 to me (essentially a wall mounting 706, the 741 being the wall mounting 746). Try looking diagram N811 and seeing if it matches your telephone.

The only oddity that I've spotted is the component at the left end of the terminal block area. What is it connected to?

"The 150R resistor may be connected between T1 and T10 to reduce sidetone on short lines"

I have changed all the connections for conversion and added the 3.3 resistor. Not the 205 rectifier which I don't yet have. The phone dials in and out OK , but the sound and dial tone are so quiet as to be almost inaudible. What might cause this?

Have you removed the 150 ohm resistor between T1 and T10 (as mentioned in previous message) - there to reduce incoming speech levels when necessary?

I removed the 150 resistor between T1 and T10. Made a phone call successfully, but the dial tone and sound reception were still as quiet. Although the person I called reported an increase in volume although sounding more crackly than before. So I still have the low volume issue. I might try another handset with the phone to eliminate that possibility

Low volume and crackles could well be a failing transmitter or dirty dial contacts.

Changing the handset, now the phone works fine, except when dialling I can hear my breath in the earpiece, although once connected, it doesn't seem noticeable
