Juli-Corder 999 Reel to Reel
Looking for a bit of advice on an unusual reel I've just picked up dirt cheap as a bit of a project.
Can anybody recommend somewhere to pick up a power cable (UK) for this? https://***********************/65535/...4bb73ab2a5.jpg Also, I've yet to take the machine apart but anticipating problems ahead.... Has anybody worked on one of these before? There isn't a huge amount of information available online so they seem like quite scarce machines! If it needs new belts for example, could anybody suggest a suitable belt kit? thanks in advance! |

Have not heard of this make, so found an image to see what it looks like.

Re: Juli-Corder 999 Reel to Reel
From your photo it looks like the mains plug is 2 pin. Ideally it would be good to convert it to UK 3 pin so as to have a safety earth connection using 3 core cable.
Online you can get IEC 3 pin chassis mounted plugs (sometimes called Kettle plugs) in a few variations that can be used with a standard kettle type mains lead. It depends whether the existing connector can easily be removed and if the new 3 pin connector can be slotted in, may require some minor metalwork changes. This link shows some of these type of connectors and some have dimensions. https://www.bing.com/shop?q=iec+chas...4506890C3F09BE Update - the posted link does not show the dimensional images that were present when I originally viewed it, so some Googling will be required at your end to check on dimensions. Note - any conversion to the mains wiring/connections should be done by a competent person. Click on "Images" near top left to get view with some dimensions shown. Re: Juli-Corder 999 Reel to Reel
I think this is the same as on some Revox, Roland and Marantz products. The cable-mounted connectors are scarce but they do exist. If so, although it has only two pins, it is earthed via side-contacts on the connector that engage with the metal body of the inlet. Personally, I dislike cutting bigger holes in equipment to take an IEC connector. I would rather fit a blanking plate with a captive flex secured through a gland, and keep the old connector, so it could be reversed later.

Re: Juli-Corder 999 Reel to Reel
Thanks all. Sounds like a trip to the electrician neighbour to ensure this is done correctly, hopefully I can locate a suitable IEC 3 pin chassis that closely fits.
The reel also runs on batteries, so in the meantime I should be able to check it over and get things up and running! |

Re: Juli-Corder 999 Reel to Reel
It looks like it could be an IEC C9 connector https://www.plugsocketmuseum.nl/PowerCord1.html
They are available on Ebay as line sockets and ready made leads. Before purchasing you need to confirm the dimensions. Al

Re: Juli-Corder 999 Reel to Reel
It looks similar to a standard USA mains connector, Sony used those on some of their tape recorders, TC-630 for instance.

Re: Juli-Corder 999 Reel to Reel
The Revox / Marantz type is as shown by David. AFAIK neither the USA NEMA size nor IEC C9 will fit, both are physically too wide.

Re: Juli-Corder 999 Reel to Reel
My one off a very old Grundig may have narrower spacing across the 2 pins.

Re: Juli-Corder 999 Reel to Reel
Not familiar with the Sony connector, does it provide the earth connection, the TC-630 schematic does not show an earth connection to the the 2 pin AC receptacle.
