'Soundmirror' Drive Belts
Can anyone help me? I have a Soundmirror tape recorder TP411, the wooden-cased tabletop machine made by Thermionic Products of Southampton (which later became absorbed into Racal). The drive belts have had it - there are two, one runs from the motor to the reel turntables (with a rather inelegant half twist to reverse the direction to one), and the other runs from the motor to the capstan.
I have the original belts, but I can't rely on measuring them, because the diameter is worn to less than it should be, an the length has stretched to greater than it should be - and that's apart from the rubber perishing! I'd like to get the machine running again, as it is in good condition and has been in the family since new. |

Re: 'Soundmirror' Drive Belts
Hello, I will have a look, I have about 4 sound mirrors, one fully restored and I did split one up for spares so I may have the belts around somewhere.

Re: 'Soundmirror' Drive Belts
Hello, thank you for replying! If you can measure your belts for me then that at least will give me something to go on. Then I can look for a rubber belt manufacturer and ask them if they have anything along those lines.
If you have a scrap machine, do you have a spare head cover (the triangular-shaped section, held on with the single thumbscrew)? And if so, would you be willing to sell it? Many thanks! |
