Unrecognisable Cartridge
Dear Forum Members,
Does anyone recognise the cartridge pictured hereof. There are no markings other than that pictured. Furthermore there is no evidence of any other label that may have previously been stuck on that would provide some form of identification. Apologies in advance for being a bit thick on such issues http://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/a...1&d=1508764790 |

Re: Unrecognisable Cartridge
Hey sorry to disagree, but that is not a Goldring G800.

Have just been able to source an instruction book within which the cartridge is shown as a SN-37. Does this support your earlier assessment. Thanks Joe http://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/a...1&d=1509380849 |

Re: Unrecognisable Cartridge
It looks similar that's all I can say, I've never had any experience with them.

Re: Unrecognisable Cartridge
Thought I'd check as these darn things use a £30.00 stylus. I may not live in Yorkshire but was born there, ergo by looking after the pennies the pounds will look after themselves.
Thanks Joe |

Re: Unrecognisable Cartridge
If just a new stylus is going to set you back £30, then unless you know for sure that the cartridge is really good you might as well buy yourself an Audio Technica AT-91, or even one of the magnetic version of the generic "red stylus" cartridges (as fitted to some of the less-dreadful USB turntables).

Re: Unrecognisable Cartridge
I can't remember what the G800 looked like in the flesh but non of the g800's on Google images are like the OP's cartridge, nothing like it at all.
EDIT: Post crossed. Lawrence. |

Re: Unrecognisable Cartridge
It certainly isn't a G800 - I think Tenorel 2001 is proven. Whether it's worth £30 to you for a tip is debatable - it was introduced by Condor in the UK as a "me too" budget magnetic, and was broadly comparable to the G800 in performance. Might be worth checking the coils for continuity before you jump...

Re: Unrecognisable Cartridge
I concur that it is most definitely not a G800; the following refers:-
My GL78 deck G800 coil resistance is circa 600ohms. Mystery cartridge coil resistance is circa 1000ohms The stylus rectangular insert is larger on the G800 and will not fit into the mystery cartridge. The G800 magnet seems marginally larger at 4.5mm compared to 4mm for the mystery item although I could be wrong. Incidentally will the output Volts on the mystery unit be greater than the G800 and if so would it be by a factor of 10 divide by 6? |
