There was a case down here not that long ago where a linesman climbed a pole, the pole snapped at the base, sadly the linesman was killed, the pole had been classified as suspect but not marked as such.

That's sad, but doesn't sound very relevant unless adding an aerial fixing or two compromised the pole's integrity in itself.

Why would you want to attach your aerial to a BT phone pole that does not belong to you?
I would erect my own pole to support the aerial on my own land and rest easy. J. |

Most plantations will have pole sized stuff for a decent pole, they will probably sell or give away, drag home, strip the bark off, let dry, slosh some stuff on it, hinge to two posts set in the ground, counter weight, job done, can be let down for general maintenance or if lightning threatens.
