Adjusting stylus pressure on BSR

I have this BSR in my Zenith player. I replaced the cart with a magnetic AT3600L to use a new BT amp, but it is jumping around on a new pressing LP. Seems to play very well on a 1960s record. I’m trying to adjust the pressure and I’m not sure if I’m doing it right. I think it’s this little screw that drives this spring. But even tensioned all the way it exceeds 5g and maxes out my scale. Odd because I thought a heavier pressure would reduce skip. Am I doing this right. The manufacturer recommended pressure is 2.5-3.5 g. Thanks so much.

The BSR (Model C109 Based) autochanger in your Zenith was never designed to be used with high performance MM cartridges. This will push the limitations of the tone arm and its physics to the limit. The arm, at its lightest, will only perform and track adequately above 4.5/5 grams.

The AT3600L was never supplied by Audio Technica as a separate cartridge. It was only supplied OEM for installation in arm/deck use. AT however sell a replacement stylus for £16

So this one is probably a Chinese copy. Which you can get for £10 to £14

Conical stylus, around 3.5g tracking force.

But like Edward says - this is a very basic deck, and will not be a happy match with a MM cartridge.

The little screw is the correct one to adjust, but the fact is that the type of cartridge you're trying to use is completely unsuitable for that type of arm and deck and you'll end up causing damage to both your records and the cartridge.

Just one small comment, from talking to a number of record dealers it seams seems that it is a common complaint that new pressings don't track correctly when played on older decks.
