Tascam cassette parts
Hi all, this is a shot in the dark. I bought a Tascam 112 MkII cassette deck this week. It's in good condition cosmetically but when I tried it out I've discovered a fault. There is a nylon/plastic gear train that operates the spooling and engagement of the heads. One of the gears has stripped some teeth from its periphery. As it's quite an old machine parts are not available from Teac/Tascam. Would anyone know of a company that can supply replacement gear wheels? I know that in the States there was a company stocking these parts as a range of aftermarket spares. Not specific but for a range of applications but they don't supply to the UK.
Any ideas would be gratefully received. Mike

Re: Tascam cassette parts
I think it operates the head and pinch roller engagement but not the motors.
I've had this issue. It also affects the 3 head 122 MkII series as well which is used quite a bit for professional archiving of cassettes. It seems the plastic just ages and gets brittle. The last time I ordered one from a supplier in Melbourne a few years ago he was able to supply. I think he's closed up his business since. Only a small part with I think two gears cut into it. Maybe it wouldnt be too hard to remanufacture one. I dont know if spares are still available but I suspect there would be stocks somewhere. A shame in a way Tascam changed from a belt and pulley system in previous models. Sure the belt would fail but it was an easily obtainable universal part and probably still is. Hope that helps Tim |

Re: Tascam cassette parts
Hi Andy, yes, I'll try and get some pics in the next few days. Got a bench full of bits at the moment with not a lot of room left. It's only a small bench Mike

Re: Tascam cassette parts
I think this is the one. I must have kept it after replacing in a Tascam 122MkIII. You can just see the stripped tooth on the larger run of teeth at the back. Cheers Tim

Re: Tascam cassette parts
Hi Tim, yes that's quite right. Exactly the Sam problem. I managed to get a replacement from Triplex in Germany. Very efficient and speedy service.

Re: Tascam cassette parts
Hi all, just a footnote to this thread. I did manage to source the parts needed from Triplex and spent yesterday morning cleaning (there was a lot of dried grease on the mechanism), relubricating and replacing the gears. I also put some new VU meter bulbs and a new capstan drive belt in for good measure. The end result was very good. I now have a machine that plays and more importantly, sounds extremely good.
So thanks to you all for the advice and explanations. Mike

I will be very pleased if You send me proper link to the INTEX site, do they need a old gears as a sample? Zbyszek.

Re: Tascam cassette parts
Czesc, here's the link for TRIPLEX - http://triplex-service.de/index.php/en/teac-e, select and paste into the URL bar on a blank tab.
Hope that's the right one, Andy.
