Not me but good question. If you have the right paint/laquer. Please tell me the brand and or BSC number admiralty battleship grey. Or did you mix it yourselves.

For spraying you have to take of all parts including the X tal oven door (spray that apart) and the logo on top. Special attention should be taken for the speakers grill mesh.

best regards

I guess the colour should be:

British Standard Specification 381C, colour 697 light admiralty grey.

The colour on the B40 should be the same as the Racal RA17(L)

The online BSC colour charts are somehow darker more grey insted of the blueish shne, so not 100% comparable withe the real colour.

E.g. http://www.ifspowdercoating.co.uk/bs...lour_chart.htm

search for 697

Best regards

Maybe you have answered your own question. What about having it powder coated? I dont know what the price would be but the finish should be very good.

Hello Al, the thought had crossed my mind..I have noticed that where the original "paint" has chipped it is quite thick and the original casting underneath is'nt exactly smooth so powder coating might be a good alternative.
Have you any experience with powder coating ie had it done?
The receivers case is quite bad but that just seems like a normal spray paint job which should not present any particular problems.
Electronicaly and mechanicaly the set is in good condition after re alignment.
It was one of the receivers off the Ark Royal and it belonged to the radio operator of that ship so I intend to spend time refurbishing the outside if poss, the main problem being that some of the detail on the two control escutheons has worn away, however there is more there than isn't there if you see what I mean.
All the best.

Lawrence.

I answered my own question indeed. Important is the gloss finish. It should not mirror any light) silk gloss?. Dont know how to explain this in correct English.

best regards

Your English is good.

A powder coated finish is more like a silk finish and will not reflect light. I have become more of a convert to powder coating after watching the TC shoe American Hotrod. The chassis they send out to be coated always look good when they return.

I would be interested in the result, My B40 has had a hard life and was brush painted (the correct colour) a number of years ago and if the result was good I would consider it.

Is this British Standard Specification 381C, colour 697 light admiralty grey still available in the UK (for roller/brush) if so are there any shops in the UK that sells these e.g. in volumes 1 or 2 litres. I've seen small tins of about 5 ml. for small scale modelling on the bay.

best regards Qwenix
