BSR UA6 switching off, or rather not - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

I've just serviced this for a Pye Black Box what I find is that more often than not, after the last record has been played, the arm will go back to its rest, but the motor fails to switch off.

Does anyone know what causes this? The spring and the connecting wire are correct and doing their job.

Sounds like a lack of Torque from the 10" pressed steel platter. Does it still do this on 78rpm records?

Plenty of torque, even does it with a stack of 78's

The wire from the spring at the bottom of the control arm to the switch off lever needs to be adjusted. Too slack and it won't pull the lever over the stud that stops the pickup arm movement, too tight and it won't release it.

I did check the wire link but it wasn’t that.

What I found is that spring tension on the lever that operates the switch was too high, so I swapped it for a spring with lower tension and that seems to have cured it.
