SONY TC K75 - weak take up
I think this is a quite sophisticated cassette player. The issue is a very weak take up spindle causing the tape to spool and the machine to shut off. Lots of belts and drive wheels in there (!) I wondered if anyone had any advice before I start trying to dismantle it?

Re: SONY TC K75 - weak take up
If it is a 2 motor unit those functions will use the upper motor - could just be the belt.
You might gain access if the metal cover in the cassette compartment can be removed. However you may need to remove the front panel - there are not many knobs. I would clean all driving surfaces too. No manual in HiFiengine I checked. |

Re: SONY TC K75 - weak take up
I have a TC-K81, which appears to be the identical machine apart from the power switch, and I use it quite frequently. It definitely needs new belts (the capstan drive belt wheezes a bit when it's winding the heads in to position when you press play) but it also occasionally has take-up problems. When it works, the take-up torque is fine, but from time to time it just doesn't bother to turn the take-up reel at all. I haven't dug in to it to find out why, but I hear there's an electric clutch in there which can give problems.

Re: SONY TC K75 - weak take up
Cor, what a nice machine!
I've refurbished loads of cassette decks from this era over the years, and generally speaking, the Sonys have been the best in terms of how easy they are to dismantle and re-assemble, so don't be too put off if you have to take things apart. Just go slowly and take loads of good photos as you go. Nick. |
