Default Fox 2166 cartridge wiring

Hi all. I have purchased a new reproduction fox 2166 stereo cartridge, same as a ronette dc284 except that's mono. I have found faint numbers on the back 1 to 4 but these dont match any diagrams. So does anyone know which 2 are left and right positive please. im tying the ground together. thanks all.

More likely to be a clone of the Ronette 105 Stereo cartridge. If you enlarge a photo of that model, you may be able to see the channel markings.

I can tell you the connections on the Ronette 105. With the cartridge in the LP position, and looking from the back of the cartridge, top right pin is LH positive, bottom left is RH positive. Bottom right is LH ground, and top left is RH ground. Hope this helps.

If it is a clone of the Ronette 105, one stylus with be for 78s and one for 45/33rpm.

It isn't a clone of a Ronette 105 but of a Ronette TO222 and it is supplied with two styli for microgroove records, unfortunately made of sapphire rather than diamond so they won't last long. .
It should be easy to find out which the two pairs are with a multimeter. There will be low resistance between the positive and negative of each channel but I don't know how you can tell which is positive and which is negative. You could find out which channel is which if you have a test disc that announces the sides as a lot of them do.
Perhaps somebody who knows these cartridges better than I do can tell us what the pin-out is from the picture.

True, but all stereo turnover cartridges had one stylus for 78s. This one was obviously made primarily for juke boxes. The connections should be the same as those for the 105.

It seems odd that the two grounds should be diagonally opposite to each other. I've never seen a magnetic cartridge with that configuration but I have no experience with crystal/ceramic cartridges.

A ceramic cartridge will be open circuit for each channel not low resistance. A magnetic type will have the low resistance.

After all these years, I'ver never heard of, and cannot trace, a FOX 2166 stereo cartridge. Was this a Ronette special made for the Juke Box trade and not available domestically?
I notice the OP says it's a "new reproduction". Was this sourced here in the UK?

It looks as if you're going to have to change those connectors that are attached to the wires. They should be round ones, these look to be for flat cartridge pins.

Right! I assumed they were the cartridge pins as there is no sign of the cartridge in the photo. Hope it's all worked out well?
