Default Hmv 1122

I have an HMV 861813, see http://www.adverts.ie/other-antiques...-radio/1233310 for photos of another that appears to be identical except for all the scratches on the case.

I last had it working about 25 years ago using a long wire for an aerial. Yesterday I removed most of the dust from inside and switched on using the plate aerial. I found a station on long-wave but nothing with medium- or short-wave.

I have no interest in trying to repair it myself or in paying someone else to do it so I think I have three options: (a) throw it away - seems a waste, (b) put it on Freegle (Freecycle) - risk of someone electrocuting themselves or (c) giving it to someone who knows what they are doing, possibly in return for a donation to charity.

Any suggestions?

You can offer the set FOC or ask for a voluntary charity donation here: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...splay.php?f=27

Please state if it is collection only or if you would be prepared to pack it up for collection by a courier such as myHermes.

The set is an HMV 1122.

Picture on radiomuseum.org here.

Option (c) is the one to go for!

Sadly, 1950s wooden sets like this are fairly unloved, but a charity donation of £10 or so wouldn't be unreasonable.

Good luck with it,

Nick.

Thanks for the replies - Option (c) it is then. What sort of packaging is recommended for collection by courier - I don't want to pay for materials but it may be possible to scrounge bubble wrap.

It's useful to know the model number but 861813 is definitely not a serial number as mine has the same number as the one in the link I gave.
