TV set ID
I have been transferring some family slides on to the computer to restore the colour in Photoshop. Out of interest, and for a little bit of fun, I wondered if anyone can identify the two different sets in these pictures. I don't have the answers but the pictures were taken at Christmas, 1967, if that helps.
(The inflatable reindeer was my sister's present - honest! I do admit to being the one in the high chair though) Many thanks, Keith |

Re: TV set ID
I thought there would be an answer in a split second!
Here is another picture, this time from Christmas 1969 which I think shows more clearly the same TV as one of the earlier pictures. The radiogram was an HMV. Keith |

Re: TV set ID
Well that's a KB set. With the legs too. How much could you get for that now?
The set in the other two pictures.... looks to me like a Philips set. Cheers, Steve P.

I looks very much like my KB Royal Star.

Re: TV set ID
Thanks Steve and Dave, I take it that the KB set would be 405 only? Is that one quite collectable now? I don't really recall it but I do remember the one you think is a Philips, Steve, that was at my grandma's house and lasted a lot longer that the KB.
By July 1970 the KB was replaced by an HMV 2662 dual standard set. I still have the operating instruction leaflet for that set if any one can give it a good home. This lasted as a second set well into the late 1980's. I used to switch it on to 405 in the vain hope of finding something. It was replaced as our main set in 1977 when we went colour! |

Re: TV set ID
Glad you like the pictures Chipp! I've had hours of fun going through all these slides, my whole life documented from my Christening to the age of 16.
It's amazing to see how the appearance of everyday life has changed so much just in my lifetime - makes me sound really old Best wishes, Keith |

Re: TV set ID
Hi Keith,
Great pictures. I think the set is a Sobell. Looks like a 21" circa 1959/60.I had a Sobell T192 17" . The set in the picture may also be a Pilot PT650. All the best, Des. |

Re: TV set ID
Many thanks for the replies. Yes, you are right Chipp, the KB/Sobell was at our house, the other at my grandparent's house. I don't think there would be much need for anyone to have two TV's then, not quite the selection to watch that there is now (although whether that is an improvement is open to debate - but not here!). Didn't you have a puncture rapair kit for your reindeer Chipp
It certainly looks similar to the Sobell in your picture Des, I am seeing my dad today, I will ask him if he can remember, unfortunately his memory is not too good now but you never know. I cannot remember the make and model of the colour TV I'm afraid Taz. I do remember that it was rented. I will have a delve into the late 70's and early 80's and see if it was captured on a slide. I do have a photo of it somewhere but it mainly shows the first cactus I managed to get to flower sat on the top of it - not much help! I can still smell the HMV set, it had a most distinctive smell once it warmed up. I'll send you a PM Chipp about the cine films Chipp otherwise we'll go OT. Keith |

Re: TV set ID
I've found the colour TV Taz, in Christmas 1978! The Parkray and tiled fire surround have gone, replaced by a gas fire when North Sea gas arrived in the village. The radiogram has also gone, replaced by a 'music centre'. Think I prefer the look of the 60's, I hated that artificial tree!
I thought the colour set was hired but my dad says not. Unfortunately he can not remember the make of the other TV. Keith |

Re: TV set ID
Hi Keith.
That's none other than a Telpro (Decca 30-a-like) that Mikey405 was commenting on in a thread about bad design a while back. Nice picture and thanks for the memories. All the very best

Re: TV set ID
Here's a link to Mikey's thread about the Telpro featured in your photo:https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=21084
I always thought they looked more pleasing than the Decca.
