Default Deteriorating Membrane button cover on Philips 2935 receiver.

Good evening forum.
I have a Philips D2935 receiver ( world portable with bfo ) circa 1985. The receiver is functioning correctly however I’ve become concerned about the rotting plastic membrane which covers the front panel switches. It appears that Phillips didn’t foresee this material failing in their projections for the useful life of the equipment. One suggestion I’ve come across is to place a clear plastic film over the failing plastic. Would reducing the membrane to air halt its breakdown?Any ideas ?
Thanks and 73

Not so much the air it's finger grease etc., a plastic film will delay the ultimate demise of the membrane.

I have a remote control panel for my lathe which is actually installed in a plastic bag (clear!) to avoid oily contact of buttons just change it when required.

I think pretty much all 2935s are going this way by now.
Good for its day but the SW side was never up to much.
I won't miss mine when it finally dies.
