Retro computer homebrew: Orton SC/MP computer
This has been under development for some time so, hopefully, all of the bugs have been eradicated!

What a phenomenal effort, Karen!
I admire your ingenuity, patience, and ambition. I used to write Z80 assembly code and so have a bit of an idea of what's involved, but I'm certain I'd never manage anything like this collection. dave

Nah! If I were a genius I think my bank balance would look rather better
I just get fixated and devote too much time to old ideas. Who else would still be thinking about an 8 bit micro that was significantly under-powered compared to its contemporaries forty years later? |

Hi Karen
Well done on what must have been a mammoth task. Getting a PIC to produce video for your terminal was a big ask on it's own. I bet your fingers are sore from counting instruction cycles. Frank |

Re: Retro computer homebrew: Orton SC/MP computer
Thank you Frank,
As a project it has been going on for about ten years, so I've probably got the bugs sorted out! I like PICs because they're very deterministic. I have done some things with PICs that one oughtn't be able to do (like video generation). I confess I used the Microchip 'SIM' debugging tool, which includes a stopwatch to time sections of code. Even so, there are places where every single cycle is used! |
