Re: Duxford Radio Society.
Very sad news about DRS/DRT being forced out..... DX/IWM management get more and more up their own exit holes every year, I notice that their largest airshow has moved/been forced out (?) to Sywell next time around (traffic will be a nightmare on them little bumpkin roads!)........the place is definitely loosing its charm.....

Re: Duxford Radio Society.
It's a shame what's been happening to Duxford. It's been losing its edge for years, with the airshows become more and more tame over the years, but even RIAT has done so.

Re: Duxford Radio Society.
'Flying Legends' (the main big 'warbird' airshow) isn't even going to be held there any more. It's moving to another venue which, like RIAT and unlike Duxford, can only be approached on tiny roads.
Even so, on a non-event day Duxford remains my favourite UK war museum with the two RAF museums (Hendon / Cosford) very close behind. Agree that their apparent attitude to the Radio Society is a disgrace, though. |

Re: Duxford Radio Society.
Some further updates for all.
The main hanger which houses most of the armour collection is being demolished, as already mentioned- exhibits will leave the site by the end of this year, with most of them heading to Pima Air and Space museum in the States for their new collection. Planning permission for a new hanger has been submitted and approved. Other such clubs on site with the exception of those held on the South Side, are also in the process of moving. Such as the Scale modelling club which I attended. |

Re: Duxford Radio Society.
What sort of items are in the armour collection? Are they not owned by the IWM, if they are how can they be shipped abroad?
Whilst nothing to do with the Radio Section, I'd like to know more, please! Andy |
