Electrolytic caps for homebrew valve sets
Hiya
I'm going to attempt some homebrew valve receivers - both low voltage and higher voltage - 250V, built as prototypes. Being a bit OCD, I like to have a selection of components available rather than buying them individually as needed and waiting for them to arrive - by which time Im usually distracted by another project!! Before I go on an online spending spree, can you suggest the most common electrolytic capacitors used in basic valve receivers? I will then purchase 2 to 3 of each value so they are available when needed. e.g. 10u, 22u, 47u, 220u, 330u, 470u at 350V to 500V- am I missing any or is this sufficient/too many? I'm not planning on following any design in particular, just base it on some of the earlier SPRAT articles using some of the surplus triode/pentode valves I have. Cheers Steve |

Re: Electrolytic caps for homebrew valve sets
10uF, 22uF and 47uF will cover most requirements.

Re: Electrolytic caps for homebrew valve sets
25v or so for cathode decouplers for audio output stages, and the rest rated comfortably above your intended HT.
Most radios don't need many electrolytic capacitors... a reservoir, a smoother and a cathode decoupler. David

I would also reccomend storing the capacitors with Value/Voltage AND the ripple rating.
