Default Sad passing of Siegfried Linkwitz

Hi All,

Moderators I hope I’ve put this in the right place, if not can you move it to the right place.

I’ve just read the sad passing of Siegfried Linkwitz.

http://www.linkwitzlab.com/What_is_n...inkwitzlab.htm

He was a true innovator – never forget reading the 1970’s Wireless World article on crossover design, for me it was a game changer in speaker technology and gave me the appreciation for the KEF B139, B110 and T27 drivers and active speaker technology.

He had prostate cancer – this is too close to home as my ‘old Dad passed on back in July of this year after a battle with metastatic prostate cancer.

Regards
Terry

He had been fighting for the last 16 years, and was in good health until the last few months. He has a hospital bed put at the end of his front room/listening room, and was still giving interviews from there quite close to him dying at age 83.

I too built his first published active speaker design (published in Wireless World, late 70's) in 1980, and his last great design, the LX521, a few years ago, and listen to every day.

His landmark website, a full treatise on dipole and closed box design, is in good hands. I guess since he knew that the end was coming, he transferred ownership of the site to his friend Frank Brenner of https://www.magiclx521.com/ .

This is indeed sad news. I'm in the process of building his dipole subwoofers, his development of which is a wonderful example of getting the very best performance in the face of the real-world constraints with which engineers have to live.

Cheers,

GJ

Sad, very sad.

He was a great chap and good to have a natter with. He was in HP's signal/network analyser division marketing dept when I was in it's R&D dept. His designs were all thoroughly worked through and thoroughly excellent and he had the confidence to go down a different path to the usual.
