Re: Coil winding advice
Correct.
Winding with heavy wire off the end of the spool you finish up with the spool climbing onto the bench! I was told that off the end was normal with fine wire, my old wooden reels are rounded and very smooth and polished on the ends precisely for that reason. |

Re: Coil winding advice
Just trying to test solder the old coil and new wire I have. The old on 400c seems to burn coating off fine, the new does not seem to want to play ball. Any suggestions please?

Re: Coil winding advice
What is the type of enamel on your wire? Post a photo of the label if in doubt. Fingers crossed you don't have high temperature or a non-solderable grade!

Re: Coil winding advice
Thanks , very kind of you.
This has become a major challenge now not to be beaten. I was trying to re solder the hair spring to the pivot yesterday. Very difficult to get the spring on at just the right angle, i.e. Horizontal. I was wondering if a small card disc with a hole may work? |
