Default 6SG7's for my RCA AR88.

Hi Guys.

Just got some NOS 1978 stock 6SG7 valves today for £10 plus post for qty 10.

All have RCA Logo on and are sealed in manufacturer's boxes, is this is a good deal, what do the team think? Tested on my AVO Two Panel at 96% to 100% good, and at a gm of 4mA/V.

Can anyone explain the 100V label on the box?

pic 2 standing currrent
pic 3 good %

Thanks gezza123

1978 is the CV number for the 6SG7 valve.

10CV?

Lawrence.

That is a good deal for NOS RCA boxed. I agree with Lawrence, "100V" likely to be a smudged 10CV. I saw a batch on an auction site listing recently with the claim "1978 manufacture", I think they'd assumed that the CV code was the year of production!,

1978 would seem very late for these valves, particularly from US/European manufacturers.

The valve at the bottom right of picture 1 is very clearly labelled 10CV 1978 - rotate the picture through 180 degrees to make it easier to read!
10CV is the Air Ministry Section Reference for valves, so they listed 'CV1978' as '10CV/1978' or '10CV 1978' in this case.
£10 for ten is a very acceptable price in my view.

Thanks guys for your knowledge again.

Yes Lawrence you are correct I have just looked it up in the AVO Valve data Manual No.11 1958 Edition, and it states CV-1978 equivalent to 6S7G,
this data user manual is for use with the AVO Characteristic Meter,
the AVO Valve Tester Type 160 and A.V.T two panel tester.

There is also a name on the inside of some of the boxes.

BACH No.133
Thanks again for all your inputs.

Risking 'teaching granny to suck eggs', but in case anyone doesn't know, VT-211 seen in the second picture is the American military designation of this valve type. American VT numbers must not be confused with British Air Ministry valve numbers beginning with VT (meaning Valve, Transmitting), which aren't hyphenated.
