Splitting antenna between receiver and spectrum analyser?
Hi All,
I wish to split the feed from one of my antennas (probably the VHF/UHF discone) between both my scanning receiver and the input to my Anritsu spectrum analyser. This is only for indicative monitoring, not accurate measurements. I'm wondering if just a passive resistive splitter would be OK for this, or is there any particular reason, other than the losses, not to do it this way? 50ohm system throughout. Cheers Martin

Re: Splitting antenna between receiver and spectrum analyser?
The spectrum analyser LO will be well out of band, but the analyser will keep finding the scanner's LO leaking out of the antenna.
I did some systems for the German radio regulatory authorities with analysers and wideband receivers (Icom R9000) Resistive splitters were fine, though the analyser needed a preamp to see what the receiver could hear. David

Cheers, thats exactly the sort of info I was after! Just needed a sanity check, planning things like this at silly times of the night!
