Default Re Gunned CRTs ? 7BP7

Just a thought, there are a number of 7BP7 tubes for sale at the moment all new and although there is limited call for 7" blue/yellow phosphors for TV use could these tubes be used for re-gunning other more standard tubes, the guns are obviously new and pristine.

Reading Darius exploits with getting his tube regunned i think using the only available gun (colour) would these be a better bet? is there anyone left who actually reguns tubes now?is this feasible? should someone be saving these things?.

Obviously there are experts who can answer some or all of these questions on here, given the current state of round tubes (shortage) should'nt we be looking at something like this?it would be a shame if these tubes went to waste and could have been used to make another few sets live again.

All comments welcome.

Regards Mike

Hi Mike,
not possible, because the gun is activated.
Look at the Mullard film. It is explained there.
I have a 7BP7 in my SSTV monitor.
There is a jellow afterglow if something moves. With very slow moving pictures or test patterns a
P7 phosphor looks good.
The pics on the UVB website are made from a 10KP7 I used in my Tesla 4001.
(See link at the top.)
Moving pictures are not good but ok.
But think I am able to change the phosphor of the 7BP7, but I need some
for experiments.
In the Tesla set a flat screen tube was used, so you don't see that the
original is replaced. I had to change the position of the coils and focusing
magnet because the bowl is a few centimetres longer. Aquadag and an
eht cap wasn't neccessary.

Kind regards
Darius

In the eighties we used to send tubes away for rebuilding, and apparently they used to wash the old burned phophor out and recoat, so presumeably this could be used to replace the phospor with a different colour? Does sound a bit specialist and expensive though.

Yes, they make a new aluminized screen and a reguning.
But regunt tubes don't last that long as an original radar tube.
They have a special long live kat(h)ode.
The advantage of the 7BP7 is the small neck diameter.
There are some (military) 7_P4 availible, but they have a thick neck.
My friend Michael bought some statesite for his french TV set, but it
wasn't possible to mount the coils on it.
And the screen is flat, this looks not original.

Kind regards
Darius
