HMV Mod. 5107
Quote:
I come to ask for help for this radio that I can not find a diagram. HMV 5107, which I want to be able to repair and restore. I have problems in the secondary of the power transformer, possible short circuit of turns. Any help will be welcome. Attached photos. Brotherly embrace friends! Pablo P.S. It's Spanish or I use google to write in English, a thousand apologies! |

Hi Pablo,
Welcome to the forum. Yes, please translate before posting. The HMV is likely to be an export version of a domestic model. Could you please post a photo of the top of the chassis. |

Re: HMV Mod. 5107
Good evening, dear.
I sent photos of the chassis how they requested me. I can not get schematic diagram of this model. I add the valves that this chassis currently has. I have a fault in the secondary of the transformer, still disconnected all the secondary ... smoke, (short circuit in turns?) Thank you very much for your invaluable help Greetings from Montevideo, Uruguay Pablo Oddone |

Re: HMV Mod. 5107
Same chassis as the Marconi 7107, have you connected the transformer without any secondary windings connected ?.if it runs cool then it is probably still OK.There are a lot of potential components that can short out the secondary C50,C51,C52,C53, and of course the rectifier. Before switching on the radio all of the paper capacitors will probably need changing + a reform of the electrolytics.

Re: HMV Mod. 5107
Set looks as though it has been very damp, the paper valve list is turning pink.
The transformer looks reasonable, its not melted the tar. Run it as said with no secondaries connected for a few hours to dry it out. |

A reminder that Pablo is using Google Translate to post messages and read responses. This will work best if everybody replies in simple English without using idiomatic expressions, abbreviations or slang.

Johnnybear seems to be referring to a circuit schematic. Can he post it for Pablo?

Re: HMV Mod. 5107
From how I read it, I think Pablo has already disconnected the secondary windings and there was still smoke from the transformer. I would agree it does not look like it has overheated particularly, and has been damp. Also looking at some of the corrosion on the chassis I wonder if it could have been salty water/sea air and if this could cause the symptoms?
