Making air compressor diaphragm.
I need to make a replacement diaphragm for a Devilblis Tuffy compressor. Any advise on the best rubber to use, or possible link to a seller. It's about 6" and advice please.

Re: Making compressor diaphragm
Hello,
well about 25 years ago I did some maintenance on similar compressors. That diaphragm looks very much like that one used here: https://www.pft24.de/luftkompressor-...250-handy.html I know these compressors are still being made, about 3 bar max pressure. They sell spare parts, listed below. Maybe you can ask for the dimensions to find out if the diaphragm would fit. Regards, Joe |

Re: Making compressor diaphragm
Butyl rubber pond liner is very durable, but might be slightly thick if great flexibility is needed.

Re: Making compressor diaphragm
I think that EPDM might be my first choice.

Re: Making compressor diaphragm
At that pressure, it will be a fabric/elastomer multilayer composite.

Re: Making air compressor diaphragm.
Not sure the total pressure sure it used to cut out around 60 or so psi. The shaped.bit is concerning me a bit. It seems to be just rubber not a composite material.

Re: Making air compressor diaphragm.
I think that every type of diaphragm I've ever seen has structure; re-enforcing ribs or rings of some kind, it's probably an easy way or making less rubber do more, and easy to do when designing a mould. I saw some 22" diameter hemispherical diaphragms which were surprisingly thin in the centre, but had radial ribs, these being used in a type of accumulator.
