Belts for Philips cassette player
Hello everyone, among the other treasures I have been collecting have being some Philips based cassette players, hankering after a long lost childhood!
Philips N2215 Philips N2205 Radiola RA 2225 Radiola RA9109 same as Philips EL3302 (Not 100% sure) The machines are complete, if a bit tatty. I ventured into a couple them the other evening to find black goo where the belts should be (which I have now learnt is very common) My initial questions are:- How do I determine the correct size replacement belts? Any information on reasonably priced source for said belts? Is it Ok to use meths to remove the goo? Any significant “do not’s”? Thanks in advance Philip |

Re: Belts for Philips cassette player
Buy a selection of cheap generic belts, e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/30pcs-Sma...gAAOSwUH5aXGud
You will probably find suitable belts there. Even if they are the wrong type they will allow you to check the required size by trial and error. You can clean off old belt gunge with meths or IPA. Some solvents such as WD40, white spirit or nail varnish remover may work better, but check they don't attack plastic parts. Use any solvent sparingly. |

Be sure to get ALL the gunk off those surfaces, using a toothpick to get into the pulleys. Otherwise you will have dreadful wow and flutter as the new belts stick to the pulleys

Re: Belts for Philips cassette player
As Paul Sherwin advised, buy a mixed bag of belts on Ebay.
Some mixed bags have a larger quantity than others & hence, more different sizes. However, the Radiola RA 2225 comes up as a record player on Google

Just like today, famous brands that were well respected in their day but no longer exist have been bought up by Chinese groups and they sell them under the once respected British names. I own a fridge, made in China, sold by Argos with the Bush name...… Good Game, Good Game !!

Re: Belts for Philips cassette player
You can wrap a string around the belt path, measure it and then choose a belt 5-10% undersize.
PRB Belts in the U.S. had an online catalog where you could cross many of the belts. Russel bought them out, IIRC. They may still have the online cross available or send them an Email and request a catalog. I also used to order belts from Consolidated Electronics here in the States. Really good asst. but a bit pricey on some. Radiola was a brand name owned by RCA Corporation., and still is, as far as I know. Historical note: RCA-Victor was the name for a while after they bought out Victor Talking Machine Company (Victorola) ; now its just RCA again. |

Radiola was used by Philips in Spain. Names like this and Stella, Dux etc. I believe were to that non-philips dealers could sell their stock and not 'compete'.

Re: Belts for Philips cassette player
Hello again
After a little more research, it seems that Philips did not make it to hard to compare alternative branded models The Radiola RA 2225 looks very very similar to a Philips N2225! https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philip...automatic.html Philip |
