Dynatron Left channel not working
I have a Dynatron HFC 51 record player and I have noticed that the left channel doesn't play. I know it isn't the pre amp as I have tested the pre amp built in with a tape deck and I know it isn't the speakers themselves as I swapped the sockets to make sure it wasn't the speaker, it's not.
I have no idea what I should and need to do. Any help is appreciated, thanks. |

Re: Dynatron Left channel not working
Have you tested the cartridge to the record player?
What you do is lift up the arm and remove the connection wires to the cartridge. Make a note of what fits where. Then with the amp on, and volume about half way. Place your finger on the end of each of the wires one at a time. On two you should get a loud buzz one from each channel. If you get one on the left channel then the cartridge is faulty. If you don't there is something wrong with the main amp. The other two wires are earth wires and will produced either a small hum or nothing at all. |

Re: Dynatron Left channel not working
Okay, thank you so much, I will try this. Left seems to work on mono, but I don't know if that's the preamp making it do that, im no expert on this. Thanks again.

Do NOT have the amp switched to mono to try the above test.

Re: Dynatron Left channel not working
If the deck has a removable head, try taking if off and checking the contacts in it and in the arm tube before taking off the cartridge. Any tarnishing here will cause loss of audio.

Re: Dynatron Left channel not working
I removed the bottom green wire which caused a very loud noise, which I cannot stop unless I plug back in, any reason why?

Fixed it, I don't know how but I did, think a wire was loose.

Re: Dynatron Left channel not working
If the head is a slide in removable one then as Ben suggests it was common even after a few years for them to give trouble.

Re: Dynatron Left channel not working
Yes, it is a slide in head, it has 4 pins and once slid into place, a bolt like ring to tighten it and secure it, but it is all playing fine now.

Re: Dynatron Left channel not working
I think the OP means that it has a push-in, bayonet lockable type head - not the later slide in fitting option mentioned above.

Re: Dynatron Left channel not working
The push in bayonet never gave me a problem, the later slide fit did give me problems.
This one as you say Edward in the reliable bayonet type, but it is 40 years.
