Testgear (Acton) MC12 Alignment Analyser
I picked this up recently as it looked too interesting to pass and I thought would be interesting to share here. I've seen one on this forum eight years ago in what looks like more original condition, this one has capacitors on the 'sweep' outputs and some internal changes that make me think the work was done in the late sixties or seventies. All I've done is to add a new mains cord as the one that came with it was crumbling.
It looks to be some form of wobbulator. Ranges on it are 400-700 kHz, 10-20 MHz, 20-40 MHZ and 40-70 MHz. The valve is an ECC82. After the usual checks I stuck some juice up it and the (very heavy) ex-US Navy voice coil started buzzing away much like a fish tank pump. I stuck the outputs on a scope and was pleased to see a less than perfect trace from the RF output. Now, I'd be pleased to know if anyone has used one of these or could advise. I assume the Reference Freq. Input allows you to stick 455 kHz for example in it and it will sweep around that frequency (assuming the dial is also pointing to 455). X output seems to run off the 6.3V AC heater line, what does Z do (other than connect to your Z mod on your scope) ? Thanks - Andrew
