Default Maplin component bag.

I'm currently looking through an old friends equipment for a silent key sale.

With the recent demise of Maplins l just wanted to share this with you, to remind us all what a great resource it was.

Can anyone date the bag? Anything rifa-like to watch for?

Hi Ken, that number is shown in the 2011 /12 cat as L bag foil caps £5.29. I don't know when they started that line. Is there small print somewhere with a date code?

Hadn't heard about Maplin's demise - not surprising really since I don't live in the UK and haven't bought anything from them for many years. I've still got a couple of catalogs from the 1970s-1980s somewhere. Sad that they went down.

I was studying in Bristol in the early 1990s and I remember every year when the new catalogue came out the local Maplin would have bags of the discontinued components, mostly ICs, for sale. I bought most of them I think..

Still have a lot of the bits, although obviously not in the original bags.

I'll be trying to go over the rest of his component stock in more detail shortly. I've found a bag of rifas (boo...) and a bag of Mullard mustards (hurrah...).

Unfortunately as these things seem to happen in threes, two family deaths in the last two days mean I'll be a bit occupied for a while. Back shortly.
