Default RAF Snaith Museum Grand Opening 12th May

Our museum, dedicated to 51sqn bomber command and the Womens Land Army, will have its grand opening on the 12th May from 13:00 onwards.

We would love to see you there!

Now - the blatent and shameless begging! We are of course open for donations!
Anything WW2, in particular anything relating to 51sqn, the WLA or RAF Snaith itself, or anything connected with the Halifax aircraft, all such donations gratefully received,

for my part, I restore and maintain our wartime and vintage radio and electronic items. Anything that might help get or keep these running would be much appreciated! Spare valves in particular, for the R1155, AR88, and other civilian and military radios of the era. Pieces of radio, radar, power supplies, loudspeakers, and other RAF or wartime electronics are wanted. (a T1145 anyone...?)

Long term loan or donation of amateur HF equipment also sought to help build our special event station.

Donations can be brought on the day, or arrangements can be made with myself.

Cheers
Martin

You're not that far from us at the Broadcast Engineering Museum, Hemswell Cliff near Gainsborough. We also share an RAF connection - our building is the former RAF Hemswell Sergeants' Mess. We have a lovely memorial in our entrance area to the 429 sergeants, flight sergeants and warrant officers lost on operations.

Here's a thought - we've recently taken on an amateur radio callsign for our museum and we're installing a <<traditional>> station. We have enough space for aerials as big as a top band dipole! Our 'new' call sign is G3BEM and we hope to run TV to the Lincoln repeater and some specialist things such as mechanical RTTY. OK, it's not quite our broadcasting remit, but it's related. We could set up some demonstrations between us?

I look forward to coming along to your museum - it's all very exciting opening such a thing. If you would like to talk, our door is open. PM me if interested.

Best wishes,

Paul Marshall

Hi Paul,

Well I worked at Emley Moor for 16 years ntl/Arqiva in the TV SMC and never knew about your museum! But I know Hemswell I've been to the market and antiques shops many times!

I'm awaiting a SES callsign being issued, hopefully Ofcom will manage it before May!

Can you let me know your opening times? I'm currently in recovery from major surgery and my mate takes me out when he can, and we're looking for more museums to visit!

Hello Martin,

Hope your recovery continues well.

We've only had the building for just over 2 years and we started from near derelict. Still a long way to go, but our next formal opening days will be 25th and 26th May. However, always happy to open up for interested individuals and small parties.

The former RAF Hemswell is one of the most complete expansion era bomber stations, and we're part of that story as well as our broadcast history.

I look forward to visiting your museum!

Best wishes,
Paul M
